Study plan for the Degree in Civil Engineering

The Degree in Civil Engineering taught at the Higher Technical School of Engineering of the University of Seville has three mentions (also known as intensifications or specialties):

The name of the mention is specifically indicated in the student's graduate degree. When it comes to self-registration, the computer system presents all the optional subjects, whether or not they are of the intensification chosen by the student. Therefore, it is the student's responsibility to make a correct choice of them. Therefore, it is strongly recommended that you read the following guide carefully before self-enrolling in third or fourth year subjects.

The following table shows the general structure of the studies. This plan, together with that of the Master in Civil, Canal and Port Engineering, has been recently reformed. In it you can see five types of color-coded subjects:

  • The subjects indicated in aqua green background in the table (identified with the specific name of each subject) are basic training subjects that all students must take.

  • The subjects indicated in sienna background in the table (identified with the specific name of each subject) are mandatory subjects that all students must take.

  • The subjects indicated in a light yellow background (Mention) are the subjects of each mention. Once an intensification has been chosen, the subjects are unique so they can be considered “ Compulsory mention ”.
These subjects are listed on the following pages for each of the intensifications.
  • The subjects indicated in a grayish blue background Optional mention are 4.5 credit subjects for which each student can choose from an offer that depends on the chosen mention. Due to the reform approved for the 2019/2020 academic year, this module is made up, in each mention, of two complementary subjects in which the essential elements of the other two mentions are taught. The existence of these complements makes it possible to simplify the completion of the Master in Civil, Canal and Port Engineering. In the 2017/2018 academic year and earlier, this module was made up of other subjects such as “Geomatics and geographic information systems”, “Project and construction management”, ... During the 2018/2019 academic year, the offer of these electives was simultaneous. with those of the aforementioned complements. In the 2019/20 academic year, only complementary subjects are offered.

In summary and for your application:

  • Students who in the 2018/2019 academic year had not enrolled in any 4th year subject must necessarily take the two complementary subjects offered as of the 2019/2020 academic year as optional subjects.

If for reasons of national or international mobility they do not take the complementary subjects during the degree, they must necessarily take them in the master's degree in Civil, Canal and Port Engineering, if they enroll in it at the University of Seville.

  • Students who in the 2018/2019 academic year had already been enrolled in some 4th year subjects will be able to surpass the optional mention credits with any of the courses offered for this block in the 2019/2020 academic year or earlier.

However, and given that some optional subjects of mention ("Geomatics and Geographic Information Systems" and "Hydroelectric Power Plants") from the 2019/2020 academic year onwards move to the common optional block, you should be aware that the credits for these cannot be computed. as credits passed in more than one block (mention or common). In any case, those who do not take the complementary subjects during the degree must necessarily take them in the master's degree in Civil, Canal and Port Engineering, if they enroll in it at the University of Seville.

  • Subjects marked on a bright yellow background Common electives: the student can take one or more of the following options regardless of the chosen intensification (in total 9 credits):
    • Electives common to the Center : they are a series of subjects that will be offered to all ETSI degrees. The offer will be dynamic and may vary from year to year. A list of them appears at the end of this guide.

    • Business practice. 9 ECTS credits can be taken as a subject. The student must ensure that they have been assigned a company before enrolling. To do this, you must contact the ETSi external relations service .
    • Subject without teaching “English in Engineering” : recognition of 4.5 credits to the student who requests it and accredits a level equivalent to B2 in English.
    • Academic recognition for extra-university activities (cultural, sports, student representation, solidarity and cooperation) up to a maximum of 6 credits in accordance with university regulations. Download pdf
