Study plan for the Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering

The Civil Engineering Degree taught at the Higher Technical School of Engineering of the University of Seville has three mentions (also known as intensifications or specializations):

The name of the specialization is specifically indicated on the student's degree certificate. When registering online, the system displays all elective courses, regardless of whether they are part of the specialization chosen by the student. Therefore, it is the student's responsibility to make the correct selection. For this reason, it is strongly recommended that you carefully read the following guide before registering for third- or fourth-year courses.

Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering | Etsi

The following table shows the general structure of the studies. This plan, along with that of the Master's Degree in Civil Engineering, has recently been revised. It shows five types of subjects, each color-coded:

  • The subjects indicated in aqua green in the table (identified with the specific name of each subject) are basic training subjects that all students must take.

  • The subjects indicated in sienna background in the table (identified with the specific name of each subject) are compulsory subjects that all students must take.

  • The subjects highlighted in light yellow (Specialization) are the subjects for each specialization. Once a specialization is chosen, the subjects are unique and can therefore be considered " Required for Specialization ." These subjects are listed on the following pages for each specialization.

  • The subjects highlighted in blue-gray elective courses, worth 4.5 credits, for which each student can choose from a selection based on their chosen specialization. Due to the reform approved for the 2019/2020 academic year, this module now consists of two complementary courses for each specialization, covering the essential elements of the other two specializations. These complementary courses simplify the completion of the Master's Degree in Civil Engineering. In the 2017/2018 academic year and earlier, this module included other subjects such as "Geomatics and Geographic Information Systems," "Project and Construction Management," etc. During the 2018/2019 academic year, these electives were offered concurrently with the aforementioned complementary courses. In the 2019/2020 academic year, only the complementary courses are offered.

In summary and for your application:

  • Students who did not enroll in any 4th year subjects in the 2018/2019 academic year must take the two complementary subjects offered from the 2019/2020 academic year onwards as optional subjects for their specialization.

If, due to national or international mobility, they do not take the complementary subjects during their undergraduate degree, they must take them in the Master's Degree in Civil Engineering, if they enroll in it at the University of Seville.

  • Students who were already enrolled in some 4th-year subjects during the 2018/2019 academic year may complete the elective credits for their specialization with any of the courses offered for this block in the 2019/2020 academic year or earlier. However, given that some elective specialization subjects ("Geomatics and Geographic Information Systems" and "Hydroelectric Power Plants") will be part of the common elective block starting in the 2019/2020 academic year, students should be aware that the credits for these subjects cannot be counted as credits completed in more than one block (specialization or common).

In any case, those who do not take the supplementary subjects during their undergraduate studies must take them in the Master's program in Civil Engineering, if they enroll in it at the University of Seville.

  • Subjects marked in bright yellow Common electives : the student may take one or more of the following options regardless of the chosen specialization (9 credits in total):

    • Common electives for the Center : These are a series of subjects offered to all degree programs at the ETSI. The offerings will be dynamic and may vary from year to year. A list of these electives appears at the end of this guide.

    • Common electives for the degree : These are a series of 4.5-credit courses offered for all specializations within the degree program. The following sections list the available courses. Each student may choose a maximum of two of these courses.

    • Work placements. These can be taken as a 9 ECTS credit course. Students must ensure they have been assigned a company before enrolling. To do so, they should contact the ETSi's international relations office .

    • Subject without teaching “English in Engineering” : recognition of 4.5 credits to the student who requests it and proves a level equivalent to B2 in English.

    • Academic recognition for extra-university activities (cultural, sports, student representation, solidarity and cooperation) up to a maximum of 6 credits in accordance with university regulations.

  • The Final Degree Project is worth 12 credits. It can only be submitted and assessed once the student has passed at least 70% of the total credits for the degree.

  • It is also noted that the required level of language skills to obtain this qualification is B1 in English , and other languages are not valid.
