JAPA: Open day for high school students in Andalusia

Call for Awards of the XV Andalusian Open Doors Day of the Higher Technical School of Engineering of the University of Seville

The Higher Technical School of Engineering of the University of Seville (ETSI) was created in 1963 and began operating in the 1966-1967 academic year, that is, more than fifty years ago. In fact, in the 2013/2014 academic year it celebrated the 50th anniversary of its creation. Today it has a recognized national and international prestige. It has trained tens of thousands of engineers, has a staff of around 500 professors, organizations in 22 departments, and its facilities (classrooms, library, laboratories, workshops, computer center, etc.) can be considered first class in all areas. senses.

The ETSI has been holding annual conferences for pre-university students from Centers in the province of Seville, with the assurance that a close knowledge of this School will help potential students of the Engineering Degrees taught at the ETSI to take a right decision about the University Center where to continue your studies. These are the ETSI Pre-University Conferences that last four days in which more than 1,200 pre-university students participate. Along the same lines, the XV Open Day of the ETSI of Seville (JAPA 2019 of the ETSI) aims to extend this knowledge to students with the best academic records in all of Andalusia.

One of the most outstanding events of the day is the celebration of the Olympiad of Sciences Applied to Engineering, which aims to distinguish the talent and effort of the participants. The Andalusian Open Day will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2019 and will be organized as follows:

  • 10:15 a.m.: Opening ceremony in the ETSI Assembly Hall.
  • 11:00 a.m.: Celebration of the Olympiad of Sciences Applied to Engineering.
  • 12:00h: Rest.
  • 12:30h: Visit to ETSI workshops and laboratories for students and companions.
  • 1:30 p.m.: Awards ceremony in the Assembly Hall and Closing.

The resolution of the awards for the Andalusian Open Day (JAPA Awards) and the Olympiad of Sciences Applied to Engineering will be governed by the following.

Access bases
1. Requirements of participating students
  1. Be studying the Second Year of Baccalaureate during the current 2018/2019 Academic Year in a center in the Autonomous Community of Andalusia.
  2. Having taken the subjects "Mathematics I" and "Physics and Chemistry" in the First Year of Baccalaureate.
  3. Have obtained in each of the aforementioned subjects a minimum grade of 7 points and a minimum average grade of 8 points , which will have to be documented on the day of the Conference by means of a certificate from the Center that registers the student.
  4. Be interested in taking one of the eight following Bachelor's degrees taught at the ETSI:
    • Degree in Aerospace Engineering
    • Degree in Civil Engineering
    • Degree in Industrial Technology Engineering
    • Degree in Chemical Engineering
    • Degree in Telecommunications Technology Engineering
    • Degree in Electronic Engineering, Robotics and Mechatronics
    • Degree in Energy Engineering
    • Degree in Industrial Organization Engineering
2. Registration in the Olympiad of Sciences Applied to Engineering

The registration of students who wish to participate will be carried out by the Centers in which they study their Baccalaureate studies in the 2018/2019 academic year, through the form available for this purpose on the website appsetsi.us.es/japa , with a deadline for this until April 29, 2019.

3.Prizes of the Olympiad of Sciences Applied to Engineering

The following prizes will be awarded:

  • Ten accreditation diplomas for students who obtain the ten best grades in the Olympiad of Sciences Applied to Engineering on the day of the Conference.
  • The University of Seville, in order to reward Excellence in pre-university studies, will award an accreditation diploma to the first three finishers in an event that will take place in the University Auditorium. These first three finishers, provided they enroll for the first time at the University of Seville in the 2018-19 academic year and request it through their participation in the call that the University publishes (July 2018) , will receive a cash prize for an amount equivalent to the public prices corresponding to 60, 40 and 30 credits of the teachings leading to Degree Titles in first registration for the first, second and third classified, respectively.
4. Andalusian Open Day Awards (JAPA Awards)
  • Ten (10) prizes equivalent to the cost of tuition for the ten students with the best final grade (see point 6) . If the winning student's tuition cost is less than 200 euros, they will be paid at least 200 euros.
  • Those students among the ten with the best final grade (see point 6) , whose family residence is outside the city of Seville and who prove the need to move their residence to Seville to pursue their studies at the ETSI or those who, having their family residence in Seville, prove a level of family income lower than Threshold 3 (established based on the number of members of the family unit by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports in the annual call for general scholarships for students pursuing post-compulsory studies) They will receive an additional prize of 3000 euros to facilitate their maintenance during the course.
  • The prizes will be paid no later than the third week of April 2020 to all students who have not canceled registration on this date. If any awarded student cancels their registration, the prize will pass to the next student.
5. Olympiad of Sciences Applied to Engineering

The Olympiad of Sciences Applied to Engineering will consist of a test with basic questions on Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Graphic Expression. The test will be graded with a grade between 0 and 10, and to pass it and qualify for the final phase it is necessary to obtain a minimum grade of 5 points.

6. Final qualification to qualify for the JAPA awards

The final grade will be obtained in the following way: Final grade = 0.30 [mark of the Olympiad of Sciences Applied to Engineering] + 0.50 [Access mark for the ETSI Degree (out of 14 points) ]

Each of the ten students with the highest final grade will be notified of having won a Prize in the second week of November 2019.

7. Jury

It will be made up of ETSI Professors appointed by its Management. The jury's decision is final.

8. Verification and Control

The ETSI will verify with the means at its disposal those relevant data that serve to obtain the aforementioned awards.

To maintain the award during the second year, the student is required to pass all the subjects of the first year of the corresponding Degree in the First or Second Call exams with a minimum average grade of 7.5 points out of 10.

Once the second year has ended, the ETSI Management will study each award awarded to, where appropriate, extend it to the third and fourth years. The criteria for the extension of the award will be fundamentally economic in nature, as well as academic excellence, being necessary to maintain the minimum average grade of 7.5 points out of 10.

The awards may be revoked if it is discovered that data was hidden or falsified during their granting, with the student being obliged to reimburse the ETSI for the amounts unduly received.

Cancellation of registration in any of the enrolled courses in which these prizes are enjoyed will automatically suspend the payment of the prize.

To be eligible for the 3000 euro prize, students must provide the following documentation:

  • Certificate of registration in your city of origin, receipt of rent or accommodation in a university residence/college for the first 6 months of the course in case you receive this award for transfer to Seville.
  • Declaration of income of the family unit in the fiscal year 20xx.

Beneficiaries may resign at any time, and must submit the request in writing to the Secretary of the ETSI.

9. Final Provisions

1st - Registration and participation in this Conference implies acceptance of these bases and authorization for your personal data to be used by the ETSI, in accordance with Law 15/1999, of December 13, on the protection of personal data, with the sole purpose of the proper management of these awards.

2nd - References to people, groups or academic positions appear in this call in the masculine gender, as an unmarked grammatical gender. When appropriate, the citation of the corresponding precepts in the feminine gender will be valid.
