Sebastian Urbán Muñoz
A Telecommunications Engineer from the first graduating class of the University of Seville, I am currently a partner at Asterion Industrial Partners (AIP), the largest Spanish private equity fund, where I lead investments in telecommunications infrastructure at the European level, after a professional career of more than 25 years in investment management, mergers & acquisitions and as an executive in the industry, always in the field of Telecommunications.
Before joining AIP at its founding, I was Head of Strategy and Alliances at Telefónica Group, having previously led the Strategy Area for Telefónica Latin America, where I was a member of the Executive Committee based in São Paulo. Prior to that, I held the position of Executive Director within the Investment Banking divisions of Nomura & Lehman Brothers, focusing on Mergers and Acquisitions in the European Telecom, Media, and Technology sectors, based in London. Before that, I worked as a senior investment manager at Norges Bank Investment Management, the world's largest sovereign wealth fund, where I managed a global telecom portfolio, also based in London.
I am also a Chartered Financial Analyst through the CFA Institute and a patron and founding member of the ADF Sustainable Development Foundation.
Even in a field as seemingly distant as finance, the technical knowledge and skills I acquired have given me a huge competitive advantage in my profession.
