Hitachi Chair Conference "The transformer and its new capabilities in the energy transition"

As part of the activities of the Hitachi Energy Chair, on January 13th, the conference " The transformer and its new capabilities in the energy transition " will take place, given by Prof. Dr. Xose M. López Fernández  from the Department of Electrical Engineering of the School of Industrial Engineers of Vigo.

"The energy transition is redefining the role of the power transformer, traditionally perceived as a static asset, custom-designed and with little interchangeability. Today, the electrification of demand and the massive integration of renewable energies are driving a new generation of transformers with unprecedented capabilities and functional requirements."

This talk addresses, from a practical perspective, the main technological challenges and offers an overview of the innovation lines shaping the next generation of a component critical to the stability and management of the future electrical system. This context of unprecedented opportunities demands the involvement of new generations of engineers.

talk "Understanding the future of circularity: The EXPLICIT project" Nov 25. 10:00

On November 25th, at 10:00 AM in the Juan Larrañeta Room , Andrea Genovese (Sheffield University Management School) will give a 1 hour and 15 minute talk. The talk can be attended in person (until capacity is reached) or online (request access by emailing pazperez@us.es). The talk will be given in English.

Summary:

The Circular Economy (CE) is a paradigm that seeks to transform economic-ecological interactions by replacing the linear model with a restorative and regenerative one. Its central idea is to keep products in use through reuse and recycling, with the aim of reducing, slowing down, and closing the cycles of materials and energy throughout the supply chain. This shift goes beyond simply reducing waste, driving technological and social innovation.
The EXPLICIT Project has explored plausible circular futures, defining alternative scenarios that seek a transition to a circular economy and its characteristics. The implications in terms of supply chains and production networks have been analyzed, as well as the performance on environmental, social, and economic indicators.
