The Higher Technical School of Engineering of the University of Seville (ETSi) and the Royal Academy of Engineering (RAING) have celebrated the closing of the I Edition of the Mentoring of Excellence Programin which almost twenty students from the last years of the Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Engineering, Physics and Mathematics taught at the US and 10 companies in the field of engineering and industry have participated.

The event, which was chaired by Andrés Sáez Pérez, director of the Higher Technical School of Engineering of the University of Seville, was attended by Jaime Domínguez Abascal, president of the RAING, as well as Sara Gómez Martín, director of the “Women and Engineering” Project at RAING, and by Catalina Gómez Quiles, director of the Knowledge Transfer and Entrepreneurship Secretariat of the University of Seville.

Promoted by the RAING, and organized jointly with the ETSi, it is the first time that this initiative has been developed for students of the University of Seville, which has already been preceded by the success it has achieved in other Spanish Universities.

In his speech, Andrés Sáez, highlighted the importance of promoting this type of projects at the University of Seville, and committed as Director of the ETSi, to continue hosting and putting the resources in his hand so that the second edition can be developed. , which will be launched in the current 2024/25 academic year.

For her part, Catalina Gómez, expressed that “training does not end in the classrooms, but spaces must be created that promote the talent and employability of students, which in the case of many STEM degrees : Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) is close to 100% according to the data collected by the Secretariat that he directs. An example of this is engineering.”

The fundamental objective of this program has been to offer students a clear and practical vision of the competencies and skills that the labor market demands today, as well as an opportunity to become aware of their individual talents and abilities, discovering how to enhance them in their future professional career.

As Sara Gómez explained, “the important thing about mentoring is that it changes lives, because after seeing the results of this program, it is proven that not only the mentees have grown, but also the mentors in this process.”

Likewise, Jaime Domínguez Abascal asserted that "the promotion of STEM careers must be at an early age and to this end, both RAING and US have programs that seek to make the profession visible to future generations of university students."

Mentored by companies in the Andalusian industrial fabric, a total of 19 students in their final year of Bachelor's and Master's degrees taught at the University of Seville, have been able to have this approach with the industry and with the world of work, which they will join in the future. not too far away.
