Vantus launched a crowdfunding to develop the first autonomous plane in Andalusia

Publication date

A group of students from the University of Seville, members of Vantus Aerodesign Team (unmanned aerial vehicles at the University of Seville), has launched a crowdfunding with an innovative objective: develop the first university autonomous flight system in Andalusia.

This milestone is possible thanks to the support of the University of Seville and the Higher Technical School of Engineering (ETSI), which support the team in its technical training and in the development of experimental aircraft.

Since its headquarters at the ETSI of the University of Seville, Vantus Aerodesign has competed in international tournaments , highlighting in the Air position Challenge 2024 , where they achieved a 15. World position among 30 teams, facing universities such as the Polytechnic of Milan, the University of Washington or the University of Sydney. In addition, they got the best debut of a Spanish team in the history of the competition, obtaining a 4th place in better plans and a 12th best technical report.

In the Xtrachallenge 2023, the team was awarded the awards for the best technical report and better plans, consolidating excellence in the design and development of high performance aircraft. Now, with the support of the University of Seville, the training faces its greatest challenge to date: develop autonomous navigation technology with advanced sensors and optimized algorithms , which will allow them to access avant -garde competitions in aviation and continue to position the US as a reference in aerospace innovation.

"The University of Seville and the school has given us the knowledge, infrastructure and support necessary to become a reference team. Now, we want to demonstrate that Andalusian talent and university research can lead the future of aeronautics ," explain from Vantus Aerodesign Team.

An opportunity to boost engineering at the University of Seville

This project reinforces the commitment of the University of Seville and ETSI for practical training and excellence in engineering, consolidating its presence in international competitions and promoting the technological development of its students. To finance this ambitious challenge, Vantus Aerodesign has launched a crowdfunding campaign, offering rewards to collaborators, from stickers and exclusive material to the possibility of recording its name in the structure of the plane or attending flight demonstrations.
