ARUS completes its journey in the Hungarian Formula Student after a fight against the clock and the weather

Andalucía Racing Team, the US motorsports team, has competed in one of the most classic circuits on the Formula 1 calendar: the Hungaroring

The motorsports team based at the Higher Technical School of Engineering of the University of Seville, Andalucía Racing Team , has participated in its second test of this season: the Formula Student East . This competition takes place in the Hungarian city of Budapest within the layout of one of the most classic tracks on the Formula 1 calendar: the famous Hungaroring circuit.

The members of the University of Seville team have arrived in Hungary after a week of intensive preparation at the Jerez Circuit where they set the goal of maximizing the performance of their new car, the ART23-E , to surpass the results obtained. in its most recent competition, the Formula Students Netherlands. It should be remembered that at the Dutch Assen circuit the US team, based at the ETS Engineering top 10 of the Design Event test for the first time

Success despite the weather

Once in the box, the team set off to pass the technical inspections required by Formula Student in advance, in order to participate in the dynamic tests of the competition. These inspections, which thoroughly analyze all aspects of the vehicle, were not easy to pass. Although they are already very strict, in order to guarantee that the car is safe, the ARUS team had to fight against an unexpected opponent: the weather. The passage of a streak of storms, which violently hit Hungary and other Central European countries, wreaked havoc on the Hungaroring and surrounding areas, causing track activity to stop for several hours, substantially reducing the time that ARUS had available to overcome inspections and riding on the track during practice sessions. Fortunately, the scrutiny was a complete success and the ART23-E was able to run on the track in the Auto-X, Skidpad and Endurance tests. On the other hand, the static tests developed normally.

Next goal: Formula Student Germany

On August 6, the Endurance test was held, the main event of the week, in which the ART23-E completed 23 of the 28 total laps, until the appearance of a red flag forced the marshals to stop the test after an accident on the track. While the stewards were in charge of securing the route again, the ARUS team decided to withdraw from the test for safety reasons, after finding a mechanical problem with the battery.

In the absence of the publication of the official results, the Sevillian team starts the Formula Student East with a single objective in mind: to reach the last event on the calendar, the Formula Student Germany , with the maximum possible preparation. This competition will be held between August 14 and 20.

The first electric car from a consolidated team

This year, the ARUS electric single-seater incorporates numerous new features aimed at configuring a highly competitive electric car, which allows us to address the challenge of developing the first Andalusian electric and autonomous car, Driverless category.

The ARUS team, made up of students from various centers at the University of Seville, was born in 2012 at the ETSi and has not stopped progressing since then. Only one year after its creation it already had its first car on the track, becoming the first Andalusian team to compete in Formula Student. In 2018, the group designed and manufactured its first electric model.
