An ETSI researcher is awarded at the most important conference on Nuclear Fusion
The scientific committee of the “29th Fusion Energy Conference” congress, organized by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), has awarded the “Early Career Poster Award” to the contribution prepared by the researcher Javier González Martín , hired by Juan de la Cierva and “ EUROfusion Bernard Bigot Researcher Grantee ” from the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering of the Higher Technical School of Engineering (ETSI) of the University of Seville (US).
Through simulations and experimental measurements, this research demonstrates the possibility of controlling the Alfvénic waves that appear in nuclear fusion reactors, thus being able to improve the confinement of the particles produced by fusion. This work has the collaboration of scientists from Germany, Finland, the United States and Japan. The conclusions drawn from this study are being considered in the design of the operation of ITER , the large international fusion reactor, under construction in the south of France.
The award-winning researcher is currently leading a project on the design of the fusion product loss detector for the ITER tokamak, and is a member of the Plasma Science and Fusion Technology group , made up of professors and researchers from various departments of the ETSI and the US Faculty of Physics. This group in turn leads several projects for nuclear fusion reactors, such as the JT-60SA tokamak in Japan, the ASDEX Upgrade at the Max Planck Institute (Germany), the MAST-U in the United Kingdom, as well as the construction of the SMART at the University of Seville.
