Andrés Sáez Pérez takes office as the new Director of the Higher Technical School of Engineering of the University of Seville

The Rector of the University of Seville, Miguel Ángel Castro Arroyo, has today appointed University Professor Andrés Sáez Pérez , Director of the Higher Technical School of Engineering, ETSi , in an event held in the Auditorium of the same University. After his appointment, the inauguration of the position took place.

The new Director was elected on May 10 by unanimous vote of those present at the School Board, meeting for the first time after being established for this new four-year period.

Andrés Sáez Pérez is a University Professor in the Department of Continuous Media Mechanics and Theory of Structures at the Higher Technical School of Engineering (ETSi) of the University of Seville. He obtained the degree in Industrial Engineering, specialty in Mechanical Engineering , from the University of Seville, being a member of the XXI class (1985-1991). He completed a sixth year of studies (1990-91) at The University of Sheffield (Sheffield, England) thanks to a scholarship from the Erasmus Program. In 1994 he earned a Master of Science degree from the Department of Civil Engineering at Northwestern University (Evanston, Illinois, USA). In the 1994-95 academic year, he joined the ETSi, thanks to a Research Staff Training scholarship, to develop his Doctoral Thesis in the Structures Group under the direction of José Domínguez Abascal, obtaining the title of Doctor of Industrial Engineering in November 1997. This work received the Extraordinary Doctorate Award from the University of Seville and the Award for the Best Doctoral Thesis from the City Council of Seville .

In the 1996-97 academic year he joined the Department of Continuous Media Mechanics, Theory of Structures and Terrain Engineering at the University of Seville as a professor, teaching at the ETS of Engineering and the ETS of Architecture (ETSA). center of which he was Academic Secretary between 1998 and 2001. He obtained the position of Full University Professor in 2000 and University Professor by national qualification in 2007 . He has been Director of the Department of Continuous Media Mechanics between 2010 and 2017. During this time, he has been faculty at the University of Seville , member of the School Boards of the ETSA and the ETSi, member of various commissions , program coordinator PhD in Continuous Media Mechanics, Theory of Structures and Terrain Engineering and coordinator of the Degree in Industrial Technology Engineering.

Its research and transfer activity is linked to the field of structures and structural integrity. He has collaborated in training activities for companies, Professional Associations and the General Council of Official Associations of Industrial Engineers. He has actively participated in numerous research projects, being principal investigator of several of them. As a result of this work, he has five six-year periods of research and one of transfer, having directed 10 Doctoral Theses, of which 5 have received the extraordinary doctoral award from the University of Seville and 1 the award from the Royal Academy of Doctors of Spain. . He has collaborated as an evaluator of research projects for various national and international agencies. He is the author of more than 250 publications including articles in scientific journals, books, chapters in books and presentations at conferences, in collaboration with both national and international research groups.
