The BeOneSec Cybersecurity and Cyberintelligence Chair at the University of Seville holds its inaugural session
The Higher Technical School of Engineering of the University of Seville has celebrated the presentation of the Chair of Cybersecurity and Cyberintelligence BeOneSec, a key initiative that seeks to bring the professional practice of the cybersecurity sector closer to university students and researchers in related areas.
Among the attendees at this event were students from various disciplines and specialized teachers with the clear objective of understanding how cyber intelligence is transforming digital security.
The session began with a speech by the director of the Higher Technical School of Engineering (ETSi), Andrés Sáez Pérez, who highlighted the strategic role of collaborations between the public university and private companies, "because these types of alliances not only enrich academic training, but also open new professional doors for future talents in the sector," the ETSi director said in his speech.
One of the most inspiring moments came from Fernando Ramos, CEO of BeOneSec, who gave a presentation on the role of intelligence throughout history, up to current cyberattacks.
Thus, through real-world cases experienced firsthand by the BeOneSec team, it was shown how attacks can extend far beyond the digital realm. One of the most striking examples shared was the leak of a VIP airline ticket found on dark web channels. Through cyber intelligence analysis, the BeOneSec team identified the source of the incident: an internal leak due to human error in travel management. This case demonstrated how cyber intelligence allows for tracking, understanding, and containing threats even before they materialize.
This and other practical cases had an impact on both students and teachers, who discovered a new dimension of the cybersecurity sector.
During this session, Rafael Estepa, director of the BeOneSec Cybersecurity and Cyberintelligence Chair, also shared the first activities already underway for the 2024/2025 academic year. He extended a clear invitation to participate and take advantage of these opportunities.
Among the activities that have been launched are the following:
Two research grants: These are aimed at students interested in delving deeper into the field of applied cybersecurity. These grants will last six months, part-time, and will allow these students to receive training from researchers in the Department of Telematics Engineering and professionals from BeOneSec. Details of both scholarships and the application form can be found here.
Microcredential on the DarkNet: This training aims to provide students with a deep and structured understanding of how the main darknets (DarkNets), such as Tor, Freenet and I2P, work. All the details and registration information for the course can be found here.
The day concluded with enthusiasm, curiosity, and a question-and-answer session that demonstrated the widespread interest in the cybersecurity sector among young people. The BeOneSec Cybersecurity and Cyberintelligence Chair is consolidating its position as a meeting point between public universities and private companies, but above all, as a launching pad for those who want to build a solid professional future in cybersecurity.
