Professor Carlos Bordons Alba appointed IEEE Fellow

The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) has awarded Carlos Bordons Alba , Professor of Systems and Automation Engineering at the Higher Technical School of Engineering of the University of Seville , the title of IEEE Fellow , the highest distinction within this institution. The IEEE Fellow designation is a prestigious recognition granted to members who have made outstanding contributions in technological areas . In Professor Bordons' case, the society has recognized "his contributions to the predictive control of industrial processes and energy systems."

Professor Bordons' appointment adds to the list of professors from the University of Seville who have previously received this distinction. In total, 14 professors from the University of Seville are part of this select group, while 68 professors from Spanish universities have been named IEEE Fellows.  These figures place the University of Seville as the Spanish university with the highest number of IEEE Fellows, followed by the Polytechnic University of Madrid and the Polytechnic University of Catalonia.

Of the 14 professors distinguished with this appointment, nine belong to departments based at the Higher Technical School of Engineering and five based at the Faculty of Physics.

IEEE is a global professional organization dedicated to advancing technology in areas such as electrical engineering, electronics, automatic control, telecommunications, computer science, and other related disciplines. IEEE is known for its technical standards, scientific publications, and conferences, and is the world's largest association of engineers, with more than 460,000 members in over 190 countries, dedicated to advancing technology for the benefit of humanity. Only 0.1% of members are elevated to Fellow status each year.

Professor Carlos Bordons Alba is a Professor of Systems Engineering and Automation and Director of the ENGREEN Unit of Excellence (Engineering Laboratory for Energy and Environmental Sustainability). He is a Visiting Professor at the University of Technology Sydney, a member of the Board of Directors of the Spanish Committee for Automation (CEA), a member of the Board of Trustees of the Technological Corporation of Andalusia, and has served as Managing Director of AICIA, a member of the Council of the European Union Control Association, and Deputy Director of the ETSI (School of Engineering). He is included in the ranking published by Stanford University, which lists the world's most influential researchers.

His research focuses on advanced process control, especially predictive control and its application to energy systems, including microgrids and green hydrogen. He is co-author of several books on the subject, most notably "Model Predictive Control" (3 editions) and "Model Predictive Control of Microgrids," published by Springer.
