Students from the Higher Technical School of Engineering of the University of Seville win the local NASA Space Apps event

Four students from the Higher Technical School of Engineering of the University of Seville have won the local NASA Space Apps Challenge 2024 in Seville and have been selected as Global Nominees, which will give them the opportunity to defend their project in the global phase. Thanks to their innovative project, titled “ExoBox”, they have managed to advance to the global phase of this international competition, where they will compete among the best projects in the world.

The team developed ExoBox as a solution to improve the physical and mental health of astronauts on long-duration missions. This device combines interactive games and physical exercises, using an exoskeleton that simulates the resistance of Earth's gravity to help combat muscle atrophy and bone loss, in addition to promoting team cohesion and astronaut well-being.

The team is made up mostly of students from the Higher Technical School of Engineering of the University of Seville, such as Javier Martínez Lorenzo and Esperanza García Vela, both students of the Master's Degree in Aeronautical Engineering; and Marta Pavón Núñez and Guillermo Rodríguez-Izquierdo Gallardo, students of the Degree in Aerospace Engineering, is also made up of José Manuel Viñas Jiménez, students of the Degree in Chemical Engineering at the University of Granada and María Isabel Rivas Vega, student of the Degree in Analysis of Economic Data of the Pablo de Olavide University, Seville.

This year, the hackathon received more than 9,900 projects, of which only 947 have been selected as Global Nominees. The projects will now be evaluated by NASA experts to select the finalists, who will be announced on November 19.
