A student from the ETSi receives an award at Zhejiang University

Gonzalo Jaime Coladas, a 3rd-year student of the Degree in Industrial Technology Engineering at the Higher Technical School of Engineering of the University of Seville, has obtained a Merit Award for a work presented in the GripS Competition (Global Research Immersion Program for Young Scientists) held in China.

Grips is a program jointly organized by four Chinese universities: Zhejiang University, University of Science and Technology of China, Fudan University and Nanjing University, where participating students can choose from a wide variety of research projects offered by each of these Centers.

Specifically, the project developed by Jaime Coladas consisted of the analysis and design of a self-powered sensor using a triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) and a water droplet-based electricity generator (DEG), both based on a physical phenomenon called the "triboelectric effect". This work was supervised by professors from Zhejiang University (浙江大学), in the city of Hangzhou.

The Grips program is primarily focused on undergraduate students of all levels areas of knowledge, and its main objective is to bring the research process closer at the four Chinese universities that promote it. Participating students must pass a demanding selection process in which they must submit their academic transcript, a letter of recommendation, and a statement of motivation.

The competition lasts eight weeks, during which, in addition to developing their projects, students participate in a program of visits to industries and companies in the cities where the universities are located, as well as cultural activities and museum visits. To facilitate the travel and accommodation of international students, the program offers scholarships of up to €3,000
