The mayor of Seville, José Luis Sanz, has announced at a press conference the awarding of one of the City of Seville Medals 2026 to the Higher Technical School of Engineering (ETSi) of the University of Seville and its student associations, in recognition of its sustained contribution to the educational, scientific-technological and industrial development of the Andalusian capital, as well as its national and international projection during six decades of history.
The award comes in the year that the ETSI commemorates 60 years since the start of its academic activity, now firmly established as one of Spain's leading engineering training centers. Since its inception in the 1966/67 academic year, the School has trained more than 20,000 professionals and has played a crucial role in knowledge generation, technology transfer, and the connection between university, business, and industry.
The proposal to award this medal was promoted by Sevilla TechParkThe City Council formally submitted the candidacy of the ETSI (School of Engineering) and its student associations to the City Council, citing it as a prime example of the values, history, and philosophy of the science and technology park, as well as being an essential part of its scientific and technological ecosystem and actively contributing to its growth and development. The candidacy also received the support of more than 90 local institutions and companies with which the School maintains a close collaborative relationship built throughout its history.
The municipal recognition also highlights the work of the ETSi student associations: ARUS Andalucía Racing, ESIBot, ESTIEM, EUROAVIA Sevilla, eUSRacing, Coheteros, VANTUS, and FyCUS. These organizations develop projects in automotive, robotics, aeronautics, space, and entrepreneurship, and represent the University of Seville and the city as a whole in national and international competitions and forums. These entities are prime examples of Seville's young talent and the ETSi's capacity to foster innovation, leadership, and social commitment.
With this medal, the city recognizes the ETSi as a strategic institution for the economic, scientific and social progress of Seville, and as one of the most relevant academic and industrial benchmarks in Andalusia.
