The ETSI of the University of Seville inaugurates an exhibition on Traian Vuia, pioneer of modern aviation
The Higher Technical School of Engineering (ETSi) of the University of Seville hosted the opening of an exhibition dedicated to Traian VuiaThe exhibition, organized in collaboration with the Consulate General of Romania in Seville, highlights the work of this engineer and inventor, considered one of the pioneers of modern aviation.
The exhibition, comprised of 16 panels, offers a detailed overview of Vuia's personal and professional life, with particular attention to his contributions to the development of self-propelled aircraft. Among the highlights is his flight on March 18, 1906, when he successfully launched a heavier-than-air aircraft using only its own propulsion, without external assistance. This achievement represented a significant step forward compared to other contemporary developments, such as those of the Wright brothers, which employed auxiliary launch systems.
Beyond the strictly aeronautical field, the exhibition also addresses the global dimension of Vuia's engineering activity. In this respect, it presents his research on high-pressure steam generation systems, studies on propulsion, and contributions to construction solutions that have continued in modern engineering, such as the use of lightweight structures and efficient configurations.
The exhibition will remain open to the public at the ETSi from today until the end of May.
