Last Tuesday, July 19th , an Airbus A380 engine was installed in the workshops and laboratories building of the Higher Technical School of Engineering (ETSi) at the University of Seville. The A380 is the world's largest commercial aircraft. It carries four of these Trent 900 engines in its wings, designed and manufactured by the aerospace company Rolls-Royce . These engines are high-bypass turbofans with a triple concentric shaft, whose high-pressure turbine generates approximately 63,000 horsepower, providing 374,000 N of thrust.

It is the second largest engine manufactured by Rolls-Royce at its headquarters in Derby, England; at 5.5 meters long, with a fan diameter of 2.95 meters and a weight of about 6.5 tons, it is capable of flying on sustainable fuel, and reaching 1/3 the temperature of the surface of the Sun inside.

The arrival of this engine at the Higher Technical School of Engineering (ETSI) is the result of a donation from Rolls-Royce to the University of Seville . It was transported by road from Toulouse, where Airbus 's headquarters and the A380 assembly line are located. Currently, the University of Seville is unique in the world for housing an A380 engine. Its installation at the ETSI will allow for a new use in teaching through augmented reality exercises for students, thanks to software provided by Rolls-Royce . This software will allow them to navigate the engine's interior and can be complemented by boroscopic inspections.
These practical exercises will combine innovative teaching methods with advanced turbofan engine inspection methodologies used in the industry, thus providing US students with advanced and specialized training in turbofan engines, which will also be available to research groups. In this way, the collaboration between the US and Rolls-Royce is strengthened as industry guests for the delivery of lectures and seminars, contributing to student internships, as well as promoting the professional opportunities of the ETSi degrees .
