V Road Engineering Olympiad in its local phase in Seville

On March 17, 2023, the ETSI facilities hosted the 5th Civil Engineering Olympiad, Seville local phase. This Olympiad is aimed at 1st and 2nd year ESO (secondary school) students and, unlike other types of competitions, seeks to test the quick response and structural intuition of a team of 5 students. The tests vary in difficulty, but allow students to practice leadership roles, problem-solving skills, collaborative work abilities, and, for example, adapting to limited resources and tools. 

Twelve teams from different schools in Cadiz, Seville and Cordoba participated in the V Roads Olympiad in its local phase

The 60 participants completed six challenges: “Voussoir Arch,” “Da Vinci Bridge,” “Dam,” “Civil Engineering and its Works,” “LogisTIC: Freight Transport and Efficient Logistics,” and “Playing at Being an Engineer,” with a maximum time limit of 15 minutes per challenge.

Of the 12 participating teams, from the provinces of Cádiz, Córdoba, and Seville, the team from Colegio Bética-Mudarra in Córdoba with a score of 62 points. Second place went to IES Punta del Verde in Seville (59 points), and third to Colegio de Fomento Tabladilla (47 points), also in Seville.

Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering and the Master's Degree in Civil Engineering (Roads, Canals, and Ports collaborated and enjoyed the event, accompanied by 12 professors from the School who served as judges and provided general coordination.
