The ETSi was awarded at the IX Andalusia Engineering and Industry Awards for its historical contribution to the training of engineers
As part of the celebrations for the 175th anniversary of Industrial Engineering studies in Spain, the Higher Technical School of Engineering (ETSi) of the University of Seville was awarded one of the prizes at the 9th Andalusia Engineering and Industry Awards, granted by the Official Association of Industrial Engineers of Western Andalusia. The ceremony took place in Seville's iconic Cruzcampo Tower, a symbol of the city's industrial heritage.
The award was accepted by the director of the ETSi, Andrés Sáez Pérez, who attended the event accompanied by a large group of professors and lecturers who make up the Academic Community of the center, reflecting the collective commitment to quality training, research excellence and the link with industry.
The School of Industrial Engineering (ETSI) of Seville, founded in December 1963, is the oldest center for industrial engineering studies in Andalusia. It officially began its teaching activities in the 1966/1967 academic year and, since then, has established itself as one of the oldest and most prestigious schools in Spain for higher education in engineering. Its first graduating class of industrial engineers completed their studies in 1972, and to date, more than 17,000 graduates have passed through its classrooms, contributing their knowledge and skills to the regional and national industrial and technological sectors.
Currently, the ETSi offers a wide range of academic programs, including 8 Bachelor's degrees, 12 Master's degrees, and 4 doctoral programs. Furthermore, it maintains close ties with the local industrial and business community, fostering significant synergies between market demand and the specialization of its graduates.
Currently, the ETSI offers a broad and well-established academic structure, comprising 8 Bachelor's degrees, 12 Master's degrees, and 4 Doctoral programs, covering the main engineering disciplines. This academic structure is strengthened by close collaboration with industry and business, facilitated through numerous agreements, joint projects, and, most notably, by the existence of 15 active endowed chairs. These chairs constitute a strategic instrument for knowledge transfer, facilitating the connection between academic training and the real demands of the productive sector, thus fostering sustainable synergies between university and industry and high employability among graduates.
The Andalusia Engineering and Industry Awards, promoted since 2015 by the College, aim to recognize the professional excellence of engineers, entities and institutions that make outstanding contributions to the prestige of engineering, the industrial development of Andalusia and the economic and social progress of the community.
Along with the ETSI of the University of Seville, the other Schools of Industrial Engineering in Western Andalusia were also honored, highlighting their role in the training of highly qualified professionals:
Higher School of Engineering of the University of Cádiz
Higher Polytechnic School of the University of Cordoba
Higher Technical School of Engineering of the University of Huelva
Higher Technical School of Engineering of Algeciras
Loyola University School of Engineering
This award consolidates the role of the ETSi of the University of Seville as an academic, scientific and technological benchmark, and its firm commitment to leadership in promoting engineering, innovation and industrial progress in Andalusia and Spain.
