A total of 19 US students will be part of the Royal Academy of Engineering's Excellence Mentoring Programme
This program aims to promote female talent in STEM fields, with a special emphasis on engineering and technology
The Higher Technical School of Engineering of the University of Seville held today, at 12 noon, in the ETSi Graduation Hall, the Opening Ceremony of the 8th Edition of Excellence Mentoring Program which organizes the Royal Academy of Engineering within its initiative Women and Engineering with the aim of complementing the training of university students, with knowledge and skills specific to the business and industrial world.
The event included institutional participation from both entities involved. Speaking on behalf of the University of Seville were Felipe Rosa Iglesias, Vice-Rector for Knowledge Transfer; Carmen Gallardo Cruz, Vice-Rector for Students; and Andrés Sáez Pérez, Director of the Higher Technical School of Engineering. The Royal Academy of Engineering was represented by its President, Jaime Domínguez Abascal, and its Managing Director, Javier Pérez de Vargas.
With the participation of companies from the University's surrounding area and students selected by the Higher Technical School of Engineering, the Excellence Mentoring Program It has identified 19 potential young female technical talents who will be mentored by senior engineers from 10 companies: Hitachi Energi, EKS Energy, Ghenova, Emasesa, WoodSwallow, Ingelectus, Horse PowerTraining, NTT Data, Keyter Technologies, and Elmya EPC. The aim is to train and promote female STEM talent towards senior leadership positions.
The project's objective is to complement the training of university students with knowledge and skills – through the relationship with mentors – that are essential for proper professional development and projection, and that go beyond the purely academic aspects learned in the classroom.
This program offers a unique opportunity for female university students. The universities, making a significant effort to fund – through scholarships – this additional training provided by the excellence mentoring program, have decided to create, within the university environment itself, an ecosystem that fosters a distinct, embryonic model of engagement with their graduates, where outstanding female university students, sponsoring companies, and the Royal Academy of Engineering are the key players.
The ultimate goal of this project is to create networks of people committed to the social change needed to transform the current paradigm of education and engineering. It represents a meeting point between the corporate world and the new generation of top university talent, constituting a unique and exclusive opportunity for all participants.
