A PhD student from ETSi receives the award for the best European thesis in robotics
Researcher Antonio González Morgado, currently a substitute professor in the Department of Systems Engineering and Automation at the Higher Technical School of Engineering of the University of Seville, has been awarded the George Giralt Prize for the best European Thesis in Robotics. This award, granted annually by euRobotics, is the most prestigious in the field of robotics in Europe.
The award recognizes his doctoral thesis , 'Pushing the boundaries of Aerial Manipulators from Pipeline Inspection to Human Collaborative tasks'. The work was co-supervised by Professors Guillermo Heredia and Anibal Ollero, from the Higher Technical School of Engineering.
The award was announced at the European Robotics Forum, held in Stavanger, Norway, from March 23 to 27. Antonio González Morgado's thesis was selected, first as one of the three finalists and later as the winner, by a committee of 33 experts from among 66 papers submitted by doctoral students from across Europe. The other two finalist theses came from Delft University of Technology (Netherlands) and Karlsruhe University of Technology (Germany).
The award has been given since 2002, and only two Spanish theses had won until now. In 2005, it was awarded to a thesis presented at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, and in 2008, a doctoral student from the Polytechnic University of Madrid received the prize.
