The IES Isbilya school in Seville wins second prize at the 3rd Telecom Games

The Seville team, which represented the University of Seville after winning the local phase, has been awarded nationally for its innovative solar energy project.

The Isbilya Secondary Education Institute, in Seville, has won the second national prize in the III Teleco Games Telecommunications Olympics, thanks to its EcoCheck project: Environmental Assessment for Solar Energy, focused on the intelligent and sustainable use of solar energy.

The team, made up of students Daniel Farfán Rodríguez, Antonio Alexis Fraile Díaz, Nicolás Samanes García, and José Manuel Tierno Collado, and coordinated by Professor Francisco Javier Ruano Vázquez, advanced to the national phase after winning the local phase held at the Higher Technical School of Engineering of the University of Seville. As local winners, they represented the University of Seville in this national edition of the Teleco Games.

The awards ceremony took place at the headquarters of the State Secretariat for Telecommunications and Digital Infrastructurein Madrid, with the participation of the finalist teams from across Spain. Special recognition was given to the creativity, technical rigor, and commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals demonstrated in the submitted projects.

This year's competition saw the participation of over 1,600 students and 26 universities across the country. The aim of the contest was to develop technological solutions related to SDG 7: affordable and clean energy. Among the winning projects were a smart solar clothesline, an electric generator built using a bicycle and a washing machine motor, and an AI-powered robot for waste sorting.

Matías González, Secretary General of Telecommunications, congratulated the award winners and emphasized that “technology should contribute to improving people's lives.” For his part, Luis Miguel Chapinal, Dean of the COITT (Official Association of Telecommunications Engineers), underscored “the incredible potential of our young people” and the importance of continuing to promote careers in technology.

This national recognition of IES Isbilya highlights the talent of Seville's students and the commitment of the Higher Technical School of Engineering of the University of Seville to the promotion of science, engineering and sustainability among young people.
