The 13th edition of the Iberian Conference on Spatial Data Infrastructures (JIIDE) will be held from October 25 to 27 at the University of Seville.

Experience and technological evolution: bringing SDI closer to citizens has been chosen with the aim of giving more importance to users and sharing experiences of use cases.

The Iberian Conference on Spatial Data Infrastructures (JIIDE) are the result of the collaboration of the Direção-Geral do Território of Portugal, the National Geographic Institute of Spain, through the OA National Center for Geographic Information, the Government of Andorra and in this edition with the Institute of Statistics and Cartography of Andalusia and the University of Seville, which will host the JIIDE 2022. The 13th edition of this conference will have as its underlying theme issues related to new technological trends and how to use them to achieve more easily for the citizen and for him to benefit from them.

The motto chosen on this occasion for the XIII Conference is:

« Experience and technological evolution: bringing SDI closer to citizens »

New technological trends such as Big Data, Artificial Intelligence or Cloud Computing offer an extraordinary world of possibilities, improving the capacity for analysis, the extraction of relevant information from huge sources of data, the storage and web publication of thousands of terabytes. of images, maps or data from sensors in real time.

Technologies applied to geospatial information evolve rapidly, adapting to trends in the ICT sector and facilitating integration with other data sets (statistical, environmental, tourism, etc.). Thus, new specifications and standards have emerged and allow new uses until now unimaginable.

Furthermore, the modernization of SDI, through the collaboration of public administrations and the geospatial business sector, allows the export of technology and knowledge to other markets such as Latin America or Europe.

On the other hand, the evaluation that is being carried out of the INSPIRE Directive seems to reflect that there is limited knowledge of the needs of different users and that, therefore, it is essential to focus on use cases, good practices and experiences of users. users, rather than focusing on implementers as has usually been done.

For all these reasons, in these Iberian Spatial Data Infrastructure Conferences 2022, the use of new technologies to provide citizens with solutions that solve certain and specific problems is proposed as a primary and preferential point of view.

The JIIDE represent a privileged space for reflection on the subject of geographical information and its relationship with all the ideas discussed above since experiences are shared in different projects, technical workshops are held that aim to share knowledge on specific topics and Round tables are organized to promote debate. They were designed for all professionals in public administration, the private sector and universities who deal with geographic information, that is, for all those who use or intend to use spatial data infrastructures in the exercise of their activities. .

This year the JIIDE will be held in Seville in person from October 25 to 27 and, like every year, participation is free, but it is necessary to register in advance for each of the sessions, round tables or workshops. You can also follow the sessions in virtual mode.
