The 13th edition of the Iberian Conference on Spatial Data Infrastructures (JIIDE) will be held from October 25 to 27 at the University of Seville.
This year's theme is " Experience and technological evolution: bringing the SDI closer to citizens " with the aim of giving more importance to users and sharing experiences of use cases.
The Iberian Conference on Spatial Data Infrastructures (JIIDE) is the result of a collaboration between the Direção-Geral do Território of Portugal, the National Geographic Institute of Spain, through the OA National Center for Geographic Information, the Government of Andorra, and in this edition, the Institute of Statistics and Cartography of Andalusia and the University of Seville, which will host JIIDE 2022. The 13th edition of this conference will focus on issues related to new technological trends and how to use them to more easily reach citizens and allow them to benefit from them.
The motto chosen for this year's XIII Conference is:
« Experience and technological evolution: bringing SDI closer to the public »
New technological trends such as Big Data, Artificial Intelligence, and Cloud Computing offer a world of extraordinary possibilities, improving analytical capabilities, extracting relevant information from vast data sources, and storing and publishing thousands of terabytes of images, maps, or data from real-time sensors online.
Technologies applied to geospatial information are evolving rapidly, adapting to trends in the ICT sector and facilitating integration with other datasets (statistical, environmental, tourism, etc.). As a result, new specifications and standards have emerged, enabling previously unimaginable uses.
Furthermore, the modernization of SDIs, through collaboration between public administrations and the geospatial business sector, allows the export of technology and knowledge to other markets such as the Ibero-American or European markets.
On the other hand, the evaluation being carried out on the INSPIRE Directive seems to reflect that there is a limited understanding of the needs of different users and that, therefore, it is essential to focus on use cases, good practices and user experiences, rather than focusing on implementers as has usually been done.
Therefore, in these Iberian Spatial Data Infrastructure Conferences 2022, the primary and preferred focus is on leveraging new technologies to provide citizens with solutions that address specific problems.
The JIIDEs represent a privileged space for reflection on the topic of geographic information and its relationship to all the ideas discussed above. They provide a forum for sharing experiences from different projects, conducting technical workshops aimed at sharing knowledge on specific topics, and organizing roundtables to promote debate. They were designed for all professionals in public administration, the private sector, and academia who work with geographic information—that is, for all those who use or intend to use spatial data infrastructures in their work.
This year, the JIIDE conference will be held in Seville from October 25th to 27th, and as in previous years, participation is free, but prior registration is required for each session, roundtable, or workshop. The conference will also be available to follow virtually.
