History of the Manuel Gayán Buiza Award

The Manuel Gayán Buiza award aims to encourage and promote engineering studies, as well as research projects or doctorates related to engineering or applied mathematics. This award was created by the relatives of Professor Manuel Gayán Buiza in 2008, 10 years after his death, to keep his memory alive. Mr. Manuel Gayán Buiza, PhD in Forestry Engineering, was a professor of Algebra and Calculus at the Higher Technical School of Engineering of Seville for more than 30 years, also occasionally teaching other subjects in the Applied Mathematics department. He completed his bachelor's and doctorate at the School of Forestry Engineers in Madrid, during which time he played as an amateur soccer player in AD Plus Ultra, one of Real Madrid's affiliate teams. In addition, he was Head of the Economic Affairs Section of the Guadalquivir Hydrographic Confederation, farmer, and businessman.
