Opportunities and challenges for technological development in aeronautics and space

The aerospace sector faces great challenges, several of them because it is directly affected by the two main transformations around which a large part of European policies are structured: energy and digital.

Thus we have the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions (mostly in commercial aviation), the maintenance of the design and integration capabilities of large complete aircraft in Spain, the development of UAS and their applications, improving competitiveness in the space, the commercial use of space, or the digital transformation of manufacturing environments. R&D&I is going to be essential to overcome them.

This situation implies a series of risks for our sector, but, on the other hand, if we are able to respond to these challenges through innovation, we can take advantage of it and strengthen our positioning.

The conference will focus on the challenges we face and the technological priorities that must be developed in order to take advantage of these opportunities; the role that the PAE can play in this task. Finally, the activities planned for this year 2023 will be presented.

Spanish Aerospace Platform (PAE)

The main objectives of the Spanish Aerospace Technology Platform (PAE) are:

• A meeting forum aerospace R&D&i : the more and better members it will have, the stronger it will be. Collaboration on ideas, proposals and projects must emerge from the meeting.

• A place to define a Strategic Agenda for Spanish Aerospace Research.

• A place of technological surveillance and prospective.

• A Spanish advisory body and presence in national and international aerospace R&D&I forums.
