ARUS Andalucía Racing Team presents the new single-seater with which it will compete in the next Formula Student season
The University of Seville's racing team, ARUS Andalucía Racing Team, presented its new single-seater last night at an event held at the Central Theatre of Seville before institutional representatives, sponsors, collaborators, members of the university community and motorsport fans.
The presentation served to unveil the vehicle with which the team will compete this season in the international Formula Student races, the world's most prestigious university engineering competition. The new single-seater is the result of months of multidisciplinary work carried out by students from various degree programs at the University of Seville, who participated in the design, manufacturing, validation, and project management.
During the event, the advancements incorporated into the new vehicle were highlighted, the result of the ongoing commitment to innovation, sustainability, and technical excellence that have characterized the ARUS team since its creation at the Higher Technical School of Engineering of the University of Seville in 2012. The role of the University of Seville as a space for practical training, knowledge transfer, and the promotion of young talent in strategic fields such as engineering and mobility was also emphasized. From an environment as conducive to the development of this type of project as Seville TechPark, the ARUS team projects to the world the values that this scientific, innovative, and technological ecosystem fosters and promotes among its more than 570 institutions and companies.
The University of Seville's racing team continues to solidify its track record of technological innovation with the constant evolution of its single-seater race cars. In this regard, the new ART-26D represents a significant leap forward compared to last season's vehicle, incorporating improvements derived from a year of experience with the carbon fiber monocoque chassis and the four-electric-motor architecture. The team has focused its efforts on optimizing the current vehicle concept to maximize its performance, achieving a significant weight reduction from 285 to 218 kilograms, representing a decrease of nearly 24%. Key technical innovations include a new transmission, a completely revised aerodynamic package, and a more efficient low-voltage battery, among other improvements aimed at increasing the car's performance and competitiveness.
In parallel, ARUS has begun developing an ambitious hydrogen-based mobility project, which includes the complete design of a single-seater race car powered by a fuel cell. This initiative would position the University of Seville's team as the first in Spain and the second in the world to develop a vehicle of this type in the Formula Student competition. The project's progress was evident during the demonstration held on April 7th, in which the first propulsion test of the hydrogen system was carried out. The team has set 2027 as the target date for launching the new hydrogen-powered racing prototype.
The presentation brought together representatives from public institutions and collaborating entities that support the project, as well as former team members and members of the university community. Among those present were the Vice-Rector for Students and University Life at the University of Seville, María del Carmen Gallardo Cruz; the faculty advisor for ARUS and Deputy Director of Teaching Innovation and University Extension at the Higher Technical School of Engineering, Sergio Esteban Roncero; the Deputy Director of Studies at the Higher Technical School of Engineering, Pedro García Haro; the team manager of ARUS Andalucía Racing Team, Roberto Hernández Sánchez; as well as other members of the team's board of directors and technical management team.
Also in attendance were institutional representatives from the Regional Government of Andalusia, including the acting Minister of Educational Development and Vocational Training, María del Carmen Castillo Mena; the acting Deputy Minister of Universities, Research and Innovation, Lorena Garrido Serrano; the acting Deputy Minister of Industry, Energy and Mines, Cristóbal Sánchez Morales; and the acting Secretary General for Research and Innovation of the Ministry of Universities, Research and Innovation, Daniel Escacena Ortega. Also present were the Second Deputy Mayor of Seville, Álvaro Jesús Pimentel Siles, and the Provincial Deputy for Intermunicipal Public Services of the Provincial Council of Seville, Gonzalo Domínguez Delgado.
Representing the sponsoring entities were Antonio José Joyanes Díaz, executive vice president of Energy Parks, Exploration and Production at Moeve, which recently signed a platinum sponsorship agreement with the team, and Sergio González Álvarez, director of the Emergency Business Unit at Iturri and platinum sponsor of ARUS.
The event allowed us to showcase the work done during the last year and to recognize the contribution of all the people and organizations that make this initiative possible.
With this new single-seater, ARUS faces a new season of international competitions with the aim of continuing to consolidate itself among the leading university teams and to continue projecting the talent of the University of Seville in the field of engineering and technological innovation.
