The US racing team has unveiled the new hydrogen-based propulsion system designed for its new single-seater

The Higher Technical School of Engineering (ETSi) of the University of Seville hosted on April 7 the day “Talent, technology and industry for the Andalusia of the future”, an initiative promoted by the ARUS Andalucía Racing Team with the aim of strengthening the connection between university technological development and the Andalusian industrial fabric.

The event was designed as a forum for the transfer of applied knowledge, where engineering students showcased working technological developments to representatives from the business and institutional sectors. The initiative highlighted emerging technical capabilities and fostered synergies in strategic areas for industrial innovation.

The day's program was structured around three live technology demonstrations with direct participation from collaborating companies. The first demonstration focused on the use of composite materials and electrical systems, including the live fabrication of a carbon fiber monocoque and the integration of the vehicle's electrical system developed by the team. Companies linked to the aerospace and technology sectors, such as Aciturri and Hitachi, participated in this session, contributing their specialized knowledge of manufacturing and validation processes.

The central focus of the event was the presentation of a milestone for the University of Seville's racing team: the integration of a hydrogen-based propulsion system into a Formula Student prototype developed entirely by students. This demonstration represents a significant advance in the national context, positioning the team as the first in Spain to incorporate this energy source in this university competition.

The day concluded with a demonstration of autonomous driving, presented using the prototype with which the team competed in the last edition of Formula Student. This prototype is the first autonomous vehicle designed, manufactured, and built entirely in Andalusia. The vehicle integrates advanced perception, control, and decision-making systems, and its development was carried out in collaboration with energy sector companies such as Endesa, highlighting the convergence of software, sensors, and control systems.

The event brought together a distinguished institutional representation, with the participation of Carmen Vargas, Rector of the University of Seville; Jorge Paradela, Minister of Industry, Energy and Mines of the Regional Government of Andalusia; José Carlos Gómez Villamandos, Minister of University, Research and Innovation of the Regional Government of Andalusia; José Luis Sanz, Mayor of Seville; Andrés Sáez, Director of the Higher Technical School of Engineering of the University of Seville; and Luis Pérez, General Manager of Seville TechPark.

About ARUS Andalucía Racing Team

ARUS is the Formula Student team of the University of Seville, made up of over one hundred undergraduate and master's students in various engineering programs. Their work focuses on the design, manufacturing, and validation of single-seater racing cars, incorporating advanced technologies in areas such as composite materials, electrification, autonomous driving, and hydrogen propulsion.

Throughout its history, the team has achieved significant milestones in the regional context, such as building one of the first autonomous university vehicles in Andalusia and implementing advanced technical solutions like the monocoque chassis and all-wheel drive. In addition to its participation in international competitions, ARUS serves as a platform for practical training and as a link between universities and industry, contributing to the development of highly qualified engineering professionals.
