The ETSi recognized for its commitment to sustainability within the framework of the eCitySevilla project
The Higher Technical School of Engineering of the University of Seville recognized for its commitment to sustainability within the framework of the eCitySevilla project
The Higher Technical School of Engineering (ETSi) of the University of Seville has been awarded one of the eCity+ 2025 awards, awarded by the initiative eCitySevilla, in recognition of its outstanding contribution to sustainability, technological innovation and energy efficiency in the Sevilla TechPark environment (PCT Cartuja).
The award was presented by the Minister of University, Research and Innovation of the Andalusian Regional Government, José Carlos Gómez Villamandos, during the ceremony held to mark the renewal of the general protocol of action of the eCitySevilla project, signed by the Andalusian Regional Government, the Seville City Council, Sevilla TechPark and Endesa, reaffirming the joint commitment to the creation of a sustainable, digital and decarbonized urban ecosystem.
ETSI shares this recognition with other leading entities such as Ayesa, the Andalusian Energy Agency, Eulen (Cartuja Center Cite) and Inerco, all of which are recognized for their active role in transforming the park towards a more efficient and environmentally friendly model.
Commitment to sustainable innovation
The Higher Technical School of Engineering has actively participated in various applied research, digitalization and energy transition projects, contributing technological solutions and scientific knowledge to promote decarbonization, sustainable mobility and energy efficiency in the university and business environment.
Among its lines of action are the implementation of intelligent energy management systems, sustainable mobility within Sevilla TechPark, and the training of new engineering professionals committed to the ecological transition.
Esther Romero Ramos, Deputy Director of Business Relations and External Internships at ETSi, highlighted during the event that “This recognition reflects the School’s commitment to innovation and sustainability, fundamental pillars in the training of our students and in the projection of the University of Seville as a technological and environmental benchmark.”.
A living laboratory of sustainability
Since its launch in 2019, eCitySevilla has transformed Sevilla TechPark into a living urban laboratorywhere public institutions, universities and companies collaborate in the experimentation with sustainable and digital solutions.
Thus, in the energy chapter, 75% of the energy consumed by companies at Sevilla TechPark is from renewable sourcesThe venue has a installed photovoltaic capacity of 2.1 MWp and others are in the planning stages 2 MWp additional.
Thanks to the boost from eCitySevilla, it has also digitized the entire electrical network of Seville TechPark and a digital twin in the distribution network.
In terms of buildings, the first local energy community has been established in the Cartuja Building (Avda. Américo Vespucio). Sevilla TechPark also boasts one of the first nearly zero-energy buildings, the headquarters of the Andalusian Energy Agency, and the new Joint Research Centre (JRC) building of the European Commission.
The Park has also been the setting for the launch of a pioneering building project with a photovoltaic facade, the Odalys student residence, which supplies energy for electric vehicles and self-consumption.
In the area of mobility, Sevilla TechPark now offers 67 electric vehicle charging points, totaling 99 charging outlets. Fifteen new units have been added in the last year alone, representing a 22% increase. The Science and Technology Park boasts one of the largest electric vehicle charging hubs in Andalusia, located in Torre Sevilla.
12 pioneering projects through Public Procurement of Innovation
Within the framework of eCitySevilla, Sevilla TechPark is promoting the implementation of a set of highly innovative actions through Public Procurement of Innovation (PPI) tenders, consolidating the site as a true urban laboratory.
There will be 12 lines of action, which will involve an investment of 19.8 million euros by the Ministry of University, Research and Innovation, and which will be activated progressively over the next few years:
Shared self-consumption service and distributed energy resources (DER).
Smart public lighting system.
Application of mobility infrastructure and services MaaS (Mobility as a Service).
New model of carpooling.
Autonomous electric transport pilot.
Vehicle and pedestrian access control service.
Mobile robotics pilot for urban cleaning.
Last-mile logistics system for goods with advanced automation.
System pilot Building to Grid (B2G).
Digital infrastructure for Sevilla TechPark.
Seville TechPark data platform.
Event, emergency and security management system with digital twin and area protection.
With this recognition, ETSI reaffirms its role as academic and technological engine within the eCitySevilla ecosystem, actively contributing to the objectives of decarbonization of the district before 2030 and to the promotion of a smarter, greener and more inclusive city model.
