Civil Engineering students visit the construction site of line 3 of the Seville Metro
Last Tuesday, May 19th, students from the Civil Engineering degree program at the University of Seville conducted a technical visit to the construction site of section 3 of Line 3 of the Seville Metro. The activity was organized as part of the third-year course, General Construction Procedures, which specifically studies the construction methods used in this type of project.
During the visit, the students and their accompanying teachers attended several technical presentations and participated in a guided tour of the construction site. There, they were able to see firsthand some of the main equipment and construction procedures currently being used in the course, such as a continuous-bore auger pile driver, a clamshell bucket diaphragm wall machine in operation, and the recently installed hydromill. In addition, a live demonstration was given of the standard tests used to characterize the bentonite slurries used in diaphragm wall excavation.
The visit was organized by the Regional Government of Andalusia, the project management team (company Eptisa-Betancourt), and the construction company, UTE Vías-Lantania-DSV. During the visit, the group was accompanied by Mr. Jesús López and Mr. Alberto Cañellas from the Regional Government of Andalusia; Mr. José Antonio Osuna, project manager; and Mr. Francisco Javier Varela, manager of the construction company. Excellent technical presentations on diaphragm wall construction were given by Mr. Diego Gómez from Dragados and Mr. César Rodríguez from Lantania. At the construction site, the students were able to supplement these explanations with input from Mr. Luis del Amo from Drace-Geocisa and Mr. Álvaro Silveira from Sistemas Geotécnicos.
The General Construction Procedures course would like to express its sincere gratitude to all the people and institutions that made this visit possible. Special thanks are due to Ms. Inés María Arroyo, Head of the Transport Infrastructure Service of the Regional Government of Andalusia, for her support in promoting and organizing this activity.
