New call for entries for the 14th Manuel Gayán Buiza Prize. This prize aims to foster and promote engineering studies, as well as research projects or doctoral programs related to applied mathematics or engineering.

The call for entries for the XIV Manuel Gayán Buiza Prize will be open from October 7th until 2 pm on Friday, November 25th, 2022.

Manuel Gayán Buiza Award

Manuel Gayán Buiza, PhD in Forestry Engineering, was a professor of Algebra and Calculus at the School of Engineering in Seville for over 30 years, also occasionally teaching other subjects in the Department of Applied Mathematics. He was also Head of the Economic Affairs Section of the Guadalquivir River Basin Authority, a farmer, and a businessman.

This award was created by his family in 2008, on the tenth anniversary of Manuel Gayán Buiza's, to keep his memory alive.

Rules for the XIV Manuel Gayán Buiza Prize
Introduction

This call for proposals will award a prize to the project selected by the selection committee. The projects eligible for the prize are:

  • Research projects in a department of the Higher Technical School of Engineering of Seville (ETSI), or to be carried out by an ETSI student at another university.
  • Doctoral projects.
  • Academic improvement with a stay abroad to enhance the student's knowledge in a specific field of engineering.
Endowment

prize includes a cash award of €1,800 and a diploma from the School.

The winner will be publicly recognized at an event organized by the School, circumstances permitting. Personal collection of the prize is mandatory to receive it.

Applicant Requirements

Applicants must, at the time of application, hold a higher university degree, or be currently studying engineering.

Required documentation
  • Copy of National Identity Document or Passport.
  • Curriculum vitae.
  • Copy of the university degree obtained or current enrollment in the current course.
  • A statement justifying the interest of your training/research project, with a maximum length of 1,000 words.
  • A letter of reference from a university professor or other relevant person who has had academic contact with the applicant.

Applicants must send the documentation in pdf format (maximum total size of 10MB) to the email address info@premiomgb.es before the date and time mentioned in this call.

Selection

The review of applications will be carried out in a competitive process and, for this purpose, only the documentation provided in the applications will be considered.

The applications will be evaluated by the MGB Prize selection committee, which will consist of two representatives from the Gayán family and one from the ETSi of Seville.

The selection committee will submit the award decision to the School's Directorate for approval. If necessary, the selection committee may request a personal interview with the candidates. The interview is not intended to evaluate the candidate's academic knowledge, but rather their personal qualities and, in particular, their maturity, overall development, motivation, and the scope of their research project.

This call for applications may be declared void if the selection committee so decides.

The winners consent to their names appearing on the Award website and in the documentation associated with it.

The applicant agrees to accept, whatever it may be, the decision of the selection committee, which may not be revoked under any circumstances at the request of the applicants.

Submitting the application implies acceptance and compliance without reservation or exception with all the terms and conditions of the Scholarship call.
