The IoT Chair awards two scholarships to support Master's theses to engineering students

The Internet of Things Chair, a joint initiative of the University of Seville and the technology company WoodSwallow, has awarded scholarships to engineering students at the University of Seville to carry out their final degree or master's projects. These projects must focus on one of four specific themes proposed by the Chair related to IoT and smart energy management.  

Students who received scholarships

Following the application deadline of March 13th, the IoT Chair reviewed the applications submitted for this first edition of the scholarships. After evaluation, the committee selected two students from the Higher Technical School of Engineering at the University of Seville to receive scholarships to support their Master's theses.

The Evaluation Committee is made up equally of four expert members from both the University of Seville and WoodSwallow, and is chaired by the director of the Chair of the Internet of Things, Professor Antonio Jesús Torralba Silgado.

The recipients are Fernando Vega Zájara, a student in the Master's Degree in Telecommunications Engineeringat the Higher Technical School of Engineering, and Esther María Bravo Salguero, also a student in the Master's Degree in Telecommunications Engineering. Fernando will complete his Master's Thesis on the topic proposed by the chair: "Development of a Python process for the management and monitoring of a commercial sensor with Bluetooth connectivity," while Esther will complete hers on the topic: "Study and testing of new IoT network technologies for connected homes: Thread and Matter." The scholarship recipients commit to presenting both projects no later than September 2023. 

What do these scholarships consist of?

The Undergraduate Thesis (TFG) and Master's Thesis (TFM) grants offered by the Internet of Things Chair are open to students in any engineering discipline at the University of Seville. Through this initiative, the Chair aims to promote research and development in the fields of the Internet of Things and smart energy management.

In this first edition, the IoT Chair has selected two students from among those who submitted their applications within the established deadline and according to the terms of the call for applications. These students will each receive a grant of €3,500 to support the completion of their undergraduate or master's thesis.

Other activities of the IoT Chair

The IoT Chair carries out various teaching and research activities related to the Internet of Things and smart energy management. These include training, outreach, and events, as well as research and development activities.

The chair is currently accepting submissions for the second edition of its Undergraduate and Master's Thesis Awards. The aim is to recognize the best undergraduate and master's theses related to the Internet of Things and energy management. Students with an undergraduate or master's thesis on one of these topics are eligible to submit it and compete for one of the four awards to be granted in this 2022/23 academic year.

The call is open to students of any branch of engineering at the University of Seville and applies to projects submitted and graded between October 1, 2022 and September 30, 2023.
