Engineering and music: ETSi members perform at Vienna's iconic Musikverein

On July 6th, the Higher Technical School of Engineering (ETSi) of the University of Seville was represented at one of the world's most iconic venues: Vienna's Musikverein, renowned for hosting the prestigious New Year's Concert. Four members of the ETSi academic community participated in a musical tour of Austria as members of the Seville Philharmonic Orchestra.

Among them are Laura Garrido García, an industrial engineer and violinist; Bernabé Alonso Fariñas, a chemical engineer, clarinetist and professor at the ETSi; Alejandro Luis Rabanal, a trumpeter and student of the Degree in Electronic, Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering at the ETSi; and Elena Estepa Plumed, a violinist and a new student in the Degree in Telecommunications Technologies Engineering at the ETSi.

The tour included three concerts in Austrian territory, consolidating the link between the academic and artistic talent of the ETSI and internationally relevant stages.

Seville Philharmonic Orchestra

The Seville Philharmonic Orchestra is a musical organization whose objectives are the dissemination of symphonic and choral music and the promotion of young talent. Its artistic director is Francisco Javier Torres Simón.

Its headquarters are located in the auditorium of the Expo building on Isla de la Cartuja (Seville). From there, it prepares its symphonic repertoire, focusing primarily on works ranging from the Romantic period to contemporary music, including film and stage music.

The OFS has performed great works such as Carl Orff's Carmina Burana, Modest Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition, and Manuel de Falla's El Amor Brujo, in addition to its own productions such as Francisco Javier Torres Simón's La Procesión and Jerome Ireland's Flamenco Sinfónico.
