A researcher from the ETSI was awarded at the most important congress on Nuclear Fusion
The scientific committee of the “29th Fusion Energy Conference”, organized by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), has awarded the “Early Career Poster Award” to the contribution prepared by researcher Javier González Martín, Juan de la Cierva contracted and “EUROfusion Bernard Bigot Researcher Grantee” from the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Manufacturing of the Higher Technical School of Engineering (ETSI) of the University of Seville (US).
Through simulations and experimental measurements, this research demonstrates the possibility of controlling the Alfvenic waves that appear in nuclear fusion reactors, thereby improving the confinement of the particles produced by fusion. This work is a collaborative effort involving scientists from Germany, Finland, the United States, and Japan. The findings of this study are being considered in the design of the operation of ITER, the large international fusion reactor currently under construction in southern France.
The award-winning researcher currently leads a project on the design of the fusion product loss detector for the ITER tokamak and is a member of the Plasma Science and Fusion Technology group, comprised of professors and researchers from various departments of the ETSI and the Faculty of Physics at the University of Seville. This group also leads several projects for nuclear fusion reactors, such as the JT-60SA tokamak in Japan, the ASDEX Upgrade at the Max Planck Institute (Germany), the MAST-U in the United Kingdom, and the construction of the SMART at the University of Seville.
