The heritage of the mining railways of Cala and Aznalcóllar.
Traveling exhibition.
March 6-17.
Hall of the ETSI (School of Engineering)
From March 6 to 17, 2023, in the Hall of the School, you can visit the traveling exhibition The heritage of the mining railways of Cala and Aznalcóllar.
The heritage of the mining railways of Cala and Aznalcóllar recalls the legacy of the infrastructures that were developed in the shadow of the mining industry.
This exhibition invites viewers to explore the historical legacy of these infrastructures, which developed alongside the mining industry, a key economic activity for Andalusia in the first half of the 20th century. Entire families flocked to the area to work on the construction of the railway lines from Minas de Cala and Aznalcóllar to San Juan de Aznalfarache.
This important outreach project is organized by the Industrial Heritage Foundation of Andalusia in collaboration with the Institute of Culture and Arts of Seville (ICAS), the Official Association of Mining Engineers of Southern Spain , and the Seville branch of the Official Association of Industrial Engineers of Andalusia.
The exhibition tour progresses through the before and after of the Cala and Mina Caridad mines, ending with the proposal for a new use for these old railway lines and their conversion into greenways: a project that was born two years ago together with Asedeca Caminos Públicos Sevillanos, A Contramano Asamblea Ciclista and Ecologistas Sevilla following the destruction of the old La Rigüela station, the greatest example in Seville of this railway heritage.
The exhibition 'The heritage of the mining railways of Cala and Aznalcóllar' has two associated events:
- Opening talk: Tuesday, March 7th at 7:00 pm in the School's Graduation Hall.
- Technical talk on the Cala Railway by Professor Antonio Martínez de la Concha, on Tuesday, March 14th at 7:00 pm in the School's Lecture Hall.
