Formula E's contributions to the future of mobility

The Elasticity and Strength of Materials group is organizing a conference entitled "Contribution of Formula E to the Future of Mobility" on November 3rd at 13.00 in the ETSi Lecture Hall, presented by Alberto Longo, co-founder and chief Championship Officer.

Formula E, officially the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, is the premier electric single-seater racing series organized annually in conjunction with the FIA (Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile). This series was initially created to serve as a research and development laboratory for electric vehicles and to promote and accelerate their popularity. It also serves as a showcase for innovation and development within a framework that combines technology and sport. Since 2020, the series has held FIA World Championship status.

The inaugural season ran from September 2014 to June 2015, with the first race being the 2014 Beijing ePrix in China. In that first championship, McLaren supplied the engines, transmissions, and electronic systems for all the cars, but from the second season onward, each team built its own engine. Dallara built the chassis (designed by Spark Racing Technology), and Michelin was the sole tire supplier until Hankook took over. As the seasons progressed, a large number of automakers entered the series. In the ninth season, 2022-23, ABB began supplying the charging technology for the electric vehicles.

It is one of the championships that awards the most points for the FIA Super License: including 30, 25 and 20 to the first three finishers, respectively.
