Call for entries for the XV Manuel Gayán Buiza Prize

The call for entries for the XV Manuel Gayán Buiza Prize is now open. 

The projects that will be eligible for the award are: 

  • Final degree projects, final master's projects, doctoral projects, or research in general, in a department of the Higher Technical School of Engineering of Seville (ETSI), or to be carried out by an ETSI student at another university.

The deadline for submitting work will be Friday, November 24, 2023, at 2:00 p.m.

History of the Manuel Gayán Buiza Award

The Manuel Gayán Buiza Prize aims to foster and promote engineering studies, as well as research projects and doctoral dissertations related to engineering or applied mathematics. This prize was created by the family of Professor Manuel Gayán Buiza in 2008, ten years after his death, to keep his memory alive. Professor Manuel Gayán Buiza, a Doctor of Forestry Engineering, taught Algebra and Calculus at the Higher Technical School of Engineering in Seville for over 30 years, also occasionally teaching other subjects in the Department of Applied Mathematics. He earned his undergraduate and doctoral degrees from the School of Forestry Engineering in Madrid, during which time he played amateur football for AD Plus Ultra, one of Real Madrid's reserve teams. He was also Head of the Economic Affairs Section of the Guadalquivir River Basin Authority, a farmer, and a businessman.
