Antonio Gómez Expósito takes office as a full member of the Royal Academy of Engineering
Antonio Gómez Expósito, Professor of Electrical Engineering at the Higher Technical School of Engineering of the University of Seville, will take possession as a full member of the Royal Academy of Engineering on June 23 at 6:30 p.m., at the institution's headquarters.
The ceremony will be presided over by Jaime Domínguez Abascal, who will open the session. Following this, the corporation's secretary general, Luis Gil Sánchez, will read the appointment agreement. Afterwards, Antonio Gómez Expósito will deliver his inaugural address, entitled "From Electric Light to Solar Electricity: 150 Years of Ingenuity." The response will be given by academic Javier Aracil Santonja.
The induction of Gómez Expósito into the Royal Academy of Engineering represents further recognition of one of the most distinguished careers in Spanish electrical engineering. A professor at the University of Seville since 1992, he headed the Department of Electrical Engineering for twelve years and is currently one of the world's leading experts in electric power systems. He also holds the Endesa Chair at the University of Seville and, since 2024, has been a Distinguished Visiting Professor at Tsinghua University in Beijing.
An IEEE Fellow since 2005, his research has resulted in over 350 scientific publications and a substantial body of internationally recognized reference work in the field of electrical systems. He has also distinguished himself through his technology transfer efforts, spearheading the creation of the technology-based company Ingelectus, affiliated with the University of Seville. His career has been recognized with numerous national and international awards, including the IEEE Power & Energy Society's Outstanding Power Engineering Educator Award
The election and subsequent taking of office as a full academician reinforce the presence of the ETSi in one of the main consultative and promotional bodies for engineering in Spain, of which outstanding professors from the School are a part.
