The IEEE celebrates 35 years of promoting technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity
The IEEE is the world's largest professional association dedicated to advancing technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity. The IEEE and its members inspire a global community through their highly cited publications, conferences, technology standards, and professional and educational activities. The IEEE is the trusted voice for engineering, computing, and technology information worldwide.
There are over 421,000 IEEE in more than 160 countries, and the organization publishes one-third of the world's technical literature in electrical engineering, computer science, and electronics. It is a leading developer of international standards that underpin many of today's telecommunications, information technology, and power generation products and services.
In 2017, to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the IEEE Higher Education Institute (IEEE HS), the University of Óbuda established the Rudolf Kálmán Chair, the institution's highest academic honor, which has since been awarded to internationally renowned scientists.
Rudolf Kálmán
Rudolf Kálmán was a Hungarian engineer and mathematician who, despite not being globally recognized, also changed the world. Awarded the U.S. National Medal of Science in 2009 by Barack Obama, this inventor was responsible for the well-known Kálmán filter (1960). This algorithm has enabled, over the last 50 years, feats such as putting a man on the moon and exploring the ocean floor and other planets with robotic vehicles. These advances have undoubtedly marked, and will continue to mark, a turning point in the history of humankind.
