Europe's largest student conference begins at ETSI
The Erasmus Student Network (ESN) is holding the third edition of the Erasmus Generation Meeting (EGM) Higher Technical School of Engineering , the largest student-led conference in Europe. From April 4 to 7, 2024, the Erasmus Generation will fill the streets of Seville to create new spaces for dialogue and redefine the future of education and international mobility.
The opening and closing ceremonies will be held at FIBES, but the main venue for the rest of the activities is the Higher Technical School of Engineering at the University of Seville. More than 200 dynamic sessions with over 180 speakers demonstrate the EGM's commitment to promoting inclusion, combating discrimination, and fostering active citizenship.
Among the attendees arriving in the city these days are personalities such as Margaritis Schinas , Vice-President of the European Commission; Sira Rego , Minister of Youth and Childhood; Jaume Duch Guillot , Spokesperson for the European Parliament and Director General of Communication of the Institution; and Juan Cruz Cigudosa , Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Universities.
The University of Seville and Ulysseus , the European university coordinated by the University of Seville and comprised of seven other higher education institutions from as many countries, will have their own stand at the EGM Expo , which takes place Friday morning at the School of Engineering. In addition, Rocío Martínez de Pablos , will participate in a round table discussion dedicated to European universities. And University of Seville professor Marycruz Arcos Vargas will give a presentation in the session titled "If you think something does not affect you, it does not encourage you to participate."
This year's edition revolves around the theme "Removing barriers to active and equal participation ." This event brings together more than 1,600 participants from across Europe to hold discussions, exchange ideas, and forge pathways toward equal participation and improved international practices.
The event also features a series of parallel activities including dance and music performances, a flag parade, a large catalog of plenary sessions, interactive workshops and the bustling innovation hub known as the EGM Expo which will bring together students, universities, institutions and companies.
The University of Seville as an Erasmus destination
On the morning of Saturday, April 6, participants in the EGM, along with an external jury, will be able to witness and participate in the selection of the Erasmus Destination of the Year 2024 , a title currently being pursued by five finalists: Istanbul (Turkey), Nicosia (Cyprus), Porto (Portugal), Sofia (Bulgaria), and Seville . The winning city will be announced during the closing ceremony on Sunday.
The University of Seville welcomes numerous students each year through its international exchange programs, with Erasmus+ contributing the most. In the 2023-24 academic year alone, 2,113 international students came to the University of Seville through these exchange programs.
Italy, Germany, and France are the countries that send the largest number of students to the University of Seville . By faculty, the School of Philology , the School of Architecture , the School of Economics and Business , the School of Psychology , and the School of Engineering receive the most international students.
