II Seville Forum on Machinery for Decarbonization (SFMD)
- Seville Forum on Machinery for Decarbonization (SFMD) – 2026 Edition
- The decarbonization of the electricity grid and industry has progressed significantly through the integration of variable renewable energy (VRE). However, to achieve carbon neutrality without compromising the reliability and profitability of hard -to-decarbonize , it is necessary to implement solutions that go beyond the capabilities of electrochemical batteries.
- The SFMD 2026 is established as a technical meeting point between industry, academia and government to address the development of the critical machinery needed in this decisive phase of the energy transition.
- Technical Scope of the Forum: The program focuses on technologies that compete with or complement batteries to meet industrial-scale energy storage and grid service needs, including:
- Compression and transport of gases: Solutions for hydrogen, oxygen and new energy carriers.
- Carbon Capture and Use Systems (CCUS): Machinery applied to the capture, use and storage of CO₂.
- Long-Duration Energy Storage (LDES): Analysis of emerging and commercially available thermomechanical and chemical technologies, such as compressed air energy storage (CAES), liquid air energy storage (LAES), pumped heat , flywheels , and gravitational systems.
- Objectives: The event aims to identify technological gaps, define research needs, and coordinate pre-competitive R&D activities that accelerate the commercial viability of these systems.
- Date and Location: January 20 and 21, 2026 | Faculty of Education Sciences, University of Seville.
- Registration: Access is free upon validation. You can register by scanning the attached QR code or via the direct link.
